대학에서 영문학을 전공한 레너드 코헨은
1955년 첫 시집을 출판한 후,

60년대에는 다수의 시집과 소설도 출판,

그중 한 권은 대학의 교재가 되기도 했다.
60년대 중반부터는 작곡과 연주 활동도 시작했는데

이 곡의 가사는 스페인의 시인, 로르카의

"Little Viennese Waltz" 란 시를 번역한 것이다.

가사가 넘 어려워 그런지

가사 해석은 온갖 포털을 다 뒤져도 없고

짧은 실력으로 난해한 시를 번역하기도 불가능하다ㅠㅠ
