*Centerfold - 원래 성인잡지의 한가운데에 접어 넣는 페이지를 말하며
섹시한 여자를 일컫는 미국 속어이기도 하다.

1953년 에스콰이어지의 카피라이터였던 H.헤프너가

시카고에서 창간한 [Playboy]지에서 나온 단어.
매호마다 직업 냄새가 풍기지 않는 참신한 여성을 [Playmate]라 칭하고
그의 대형 컬러 누드사진을 잡지 가운데 [Centerfold]라 하여 집어넣어 발행하였다.

이것을 '얼굴'로 삼아 판매 공세를 폈으며

창간호의 플레이메이트는

그 해 개봉된 영화 '나이아가라'로 유명해진
마릴린 먼로의 컬러 누드사진으로 장식하였다.
